UT Basketball Legend Slater Martin Dies At 86
Wendell Barnhouse is a nationally-known and respected columnist who has spent over 20 years covering collegiate athletics. He has reported from 25 Final Fours and more than three dozen bowl games and has written about the Big 12 and its schools since the conference's beginning. Slater Martin, who led Texas to the
Final Four in 1947, died Thursday in Houston at the Age of 86. After playing
for the Longhorns - his No. 15 is retired - Slater played for 11 seasons in the
NBA and was an all-star seven times. He played on four championship teams and
was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of
Fame in 1982.
