Iowa State's Betsy Saina did something that had never been done by a Cyclone athlete - she won three individual event crowns at a conference competition. Saina won the 5,000 meters on Saturday then claimed the mile and 3,000 meter runs on Sunday. Her 30 points made Saina the top individual scorer.

"This has just been a really great overall weekend to be honest," said Saina, who won the NCAA cross country championship last November. "The whole goal for the weekend was to score the points for the Cyclones. I got 30 points and it is just a crazy feeling. I wasn't trying to get certain times in any of my races and it helped me to take it easy. It was just running and having fun for me."

Saina, who now owns seven conference titles, helped Iowa State finish in third place, just 8.5 points behind champion Kansas.

"It is bittersweet for us to come so close to winning the team championship, but when you look at the results, there really weren't many areas where we could have come up with more points," Iowa State coach Corey Ihmels said. "Betsy was amazing. When you consider all the great track and field athletes that have competed at Iowa State, she stands alone."
