The Big 12 made a strong showing in the preseason USA Today coaches' poll that was announced Thursday.

Six Big 12 schools were ranked in the top 25, just one fewer than the seven Southeastern Conference teams. However, the Big 12 had six of the top 21 teams while two SEC teams (Florida and Auburn) were ranked No. 23 and No. 25.

Oklahoma was ranked No. 4, West Virginia was No. 11, Texas was No. 15, TCU was 17th, Oklahoma State was 19th and Kansas State was No. 21. Baylor and Texas Tech each received votes.

A year ago, the Big 12 had five teams in the coaches' preseason poll.

Five Big 12 coaches vote in the poll - Baylor's Art Briles, West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen, Iowa State's Paul Rhoads, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville. Coaches can't vote for their own teams.
