Texas Tech sophomore forward Janine Beckie will represent the Big 12 on the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List.
In 2012 Beckie was an NSCAA All-America Second Team selection, earned All-Big 12 First Team honors and was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Year. The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native was tabbed by the league’s coaches to the 2013 Preseason All-Big 12 Team earlier this month.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual honor given in intercollegiate soccer. Named after Robert Hermann, former president of the National Professional Soccer League, the award has been given annually to the top male collegiate soccer athlete since 1967 and the top female collegiate soccer athlete since 1988.
Near the end of the regular season 15 players will be announced as semifinalists. NSCAA member coaches and fans will then narrow the field down to three finalists in December. The award will be presented by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 10.
The Red Raiders, picked to finish second in the league, open the 2013 season at New Mexico on Friday, Aug. 23.
