Four Claim Initial Big 12 Rider of the Month Awards

Three Big 12 schools had student-athletes recognized in the season's first Big 12 Rider of the Month awards for events contested in October. In the Equitation over Fences event, Rachel Webster (K-State) was named rider of the month, while Samantha Schaefer (Baylor) was honored in the Equitation on the Flat discipline. In Western, Samantha Bayer (TCU) was awarded the Horsemanship rider award, and team mate Chantz Stewart (TCU) claimed the Reining honor.

This is the first award for Webster, Bayer and Stewart, and the second honor for Schaefer.

Equitation over Fences Rider of the Month
Rachel Webster, K-State, Jr., Mechanicsville, Va.
Webster is the team captain and competitor in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat for K-State. She has an 11-1 record this fall with 3 MOP honors to date. The Virginian is undefeated this fall in Equitation over Fences with 4 wins occurring in the month of October.

Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month
Samantha Schaefer, Baylor, So., Westminster, Md.
Schaefer had two victories and two MVP's in the month of October. Her score of 91 against Oklahoma State's Ellie Sparks was a season high in the event and highest total of the day. Schaefer's other win against No. 1 Georgia gave Hunter Seat a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

Horsemanship Rider of the Month
Samantha Bayer, TCU, So., Eagle Point, Ore.
Bayer went 1-0 during the month of October, winning at No. 4 Texas A&M. In all, she scored a 74 and beat her competitor by 1.5 points. She also scored the lone point for the Frogs in the event.

Reining Rider of the Month
Chantz Stewart, TCU, Fr., Cave Creek, Ariz.
Stewart continued her early season dominance in Reining, scoring the highest score among all competitors in defeating No. 4 Texas A&M's Laura Sumrall, 70.5-70. She is currently 2-0 on the young season with one MVP honor.
