Five Collect Initial Rider of the Month Awards

All four Big 12 schools that sponsor equestrian had student-athletes recognized in the initial Rider of the Month awards for events contested in October. In the Equitation over Fences event Lisa Goldman (Baylor) and Ali Rose (Oklahoma State) were named co-riders of the month, while Meredith Finch (Kansas State) was honored in the Equitation on the Flat discipline. In Western, Carey Nowacek (Texas A&M) was awarded the Horsemanship rider award, while Lindsey Bernbaum (Texas A&M) claimed the Reining honor.

Equitation Over Fences Riders of the Month
Lisa Goldman, Baylor, Sr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill.
Goldman averaged an 84.5 and grabbed a pair of individual victories, leading the Fences squad to wins over Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Goldman earned MVP honors with an 86 against OSU, while her 83 against KSU also earned her a point.

Ali Rose, Oklahoma State, So., Wakefield, R.I.
Rose defeated Sue Carroll Thompson (Baylor) 84-75 in a win a 13-10 victory over the Bears.

Equitation On the Flat Rider of the Month
Meredith Finch, Kansas State, Jr., Somerville, Ohio
Finch has started 2011 off with a record of 3-2, to go along with two match-MVP awards. She owns a record of 2-2 in October. Her three wins this season have come over Minnesota-Crookston, Baylor and TCU, while she garnered MVP honors against Minnesota-Crookston and TCU.

Horsemanship Rider of the Month
Carey Nowacek, Texas A&M, Jr., San Antonio, Texas
Nowacek went undefeated on the month, leading A&M to wins over Georgia, New Mexico State and TCU. She averaged scores of 75.5 on three rides and picked up two MVP awards in victories against UGA and at NMSU. Her MVP award against New Mexico State was her fourth in a row, tying a school record.

Reining Rider of the Month
Lindsey Bernbaum, Texas A&M, So., Dufur, Ore.
Bernbaum went undefeated on the month, leading A&M to wins over Georgia, New Mexico State and TCU. She averaged scores of 71.3 on three rides and picked up two MVP awards in victories against UGA and at NMSU.
