Oklahoma State, Texas A&M Split February Big 12 Rider of the Month Awards

In the first Big 12 equestrian awards of the spring, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M had two student-athletes honored. In the Equitation over Fences event, Lia Chafee (Texas A&M) was named rider of the month, while Jordan White (Oklahoma State) was honored in the Equitation on the Flat discipline. In Western, Amanda Brightwell (Texas A&M) was awarded the Horsemanship rider award, while Caroline Daniels (Oklahoma State) claimed the Reining honor.

Equitation Over Fences Riders of the Month

Lia Chafee, Texas A&M, Sr., Little Compton, R.I.
Chafee averaged 85 points per ride over fences in the month of February, all coming on the road. She earned an 84-40 win over SMU’s Courtney Line on Feb. 3. That performance gave the senior her second MVP of the season. Later in the month, she posted a season-high 86-point ride in a road win at Oklahoma State (Feb. 25). She edged out OSU’s Samantha Elser, 86-78. Those victories extended her fences win streak to four.

Equitation On the Flat Rider of the Month
Jordan White, Oklahoma State, Sr., Spring Hill, Fla.
White recorded a 4-1 record in February with one MVP. She had the high scoring ride two times in her last five outings. The team captain has a team-high eight wins in the discipline this season. During the month, she earned wins over Auburn (75-73), USC (78-69) and New Mexico State (84-75).

Horsemanship Rider of the Month
Amanda Brightwell, Texas A&M, Jr. San Antonio, Texas
Brightwell picked up two wins in horsemanship on the road this month for the Aggies. She claimed a one point win over TCU’s Callie Rouse (Feb. 3) at the Fort Worth Stock Show. That win proved the difference in a 5-3  victory in the western-only show. She also posted a career-best score of 77.5 to defeat Marissa Dalton of Oklahoma State in Stillwater (Feb. 25). That score earned the junior her first MVP award of the year and was the second-highest score put up by an Aggie horsemanship rider this season. Brightwell is unbeaten now in her last seven rides overall.

Reining Rider of the Month
Caroline Daniels, Oklahoma State, Sr., Aspen, Colorado
Daniels had a 4-1 mark with two MVP awards. Her wins came against USC, New Mexico State, Baylor and Texas A&M. Daniels is 6-3 on the season in the discipline and riding a four-match winning streak.
