On the strength of a 4-2 record in Big 12 competition, the Oklahoma State equestrian team will be the No. 1 seed at next week’s Big 12 Equestrian Championship. The event is scheduled to take place March 30-31 at the Timbercreek Stables in Manhattan, Kan.
Behind the Cowgirls will be No. 2 seed Baylor, which also finished 4-2 in Big 12 play, but BU’s two losses came to Oklahoma State giving OSU the tiebreaker. Defending Big 12 champion Texas A&M will be seeded third after a 3-3 mark in league action. Championship host Kansas State will be the No. 4 seed at the event.
The 2012 season marks the first year that equestrian has been a fully-sponsored Big 12 sport. For the past three seasons the sport has been supported by the Conference on a limited basis, however, the three championships won during those years will be recognized by the league. Oklahoma State (2009), Baylor (2010) and Texas A&M (2011) all won the event while hosting it.
