Crossland, Smart Capture Menís Basketball Weekly Awards

Senior Connell Crossland (TCU) and freshman Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) have been chosen as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week for games of February 4-10. Crossland is the first TCU player in league history to win a weekly men's basketball honor, while Smart is designated as top rookie for the third time.

Crossland averaged a double-double for the week to help TCU to a 1-1 record, including an upset win over No. 5 Kansas. The senior forward started with a career-high 15 rebounds during the Horned Frogs' 62-55 victory over the Jayhawks, the first Big 12 win of the season for TCU. He followed that with a career-best 13 points against West Virginia. For the week, he averaged 10.5 points and 12.0 rebounds and shot 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from the field in a team-high 33.0 minutes per game. Crossland pulled down 24 total rebounds for the week, nearly 33 percent of TCU's team total (73). He has led TCU on the glass each of the last three contests and ranks 14th in the Big 12 in rebounding with 5.9 per game.

Smart helped Oklahoma State extend its winning streak to five games with wins over Baylor (69-67, ot) and at Texas (72-59). The freshman guard averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while totaling 10 assists and nine steals. He had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and zero turnovers in 42 minutes against BU. He then added 23 points, seven boards, three assists, two blocks and five steals at UT. For the week, Smart also converted 13-of-16 (.813) from the free throw line. He continues to rank high in the Big 12 in several categories, placing sixth in scoring (14.6 ppg), 15th in rebounding (5.9), sixth in assists (4.6), ninth in free throw percentage (.773) and first in steals (3.0). His total of 67 thefts is tied for fourth on the Big 12 single-season freshman list.
