Texas, West Virginia Take Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors
November 21, 2012

Two student-athletes from both Texas and West Virginia received Big 12 swimming and diving weekly honors for competition through Sunday, Nov. 18. Nathan Cobbe (West Virginia) was honored with the men's swimming award and Will Chandler (Texas) received the diving accolade. On the women's side, Danielle Smith (West Virginia) earned swimmer of the week, while Maren Taylor (Texas) again garnered the diver award. This is the first career recognition for Cobbe and Smith, the second for Chandler and the fourth for Taylor.

Texas and West Virginia have combined to win all weekly honors so far this season.

Men's Swimmer of the Week
Nathan Cobbe, West Virginia, So., Victoria, Australia
Cobbe had his best meet to date as a Mountaineer at the Pitt Invitational. He finished with the school's top finishes in the final sessions after not swimming in suits during the prelim session. The sophomore helped his team place second in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays, and his 500 free time would have won the finals by almost 1 second.

Women's Swimmer of the Week
Danielle Smith, West Virginia, Jr., Delray Beach, Fla.
Smith also had a great outing at the Pitt Invitational. The junior garnered five first place finishes, including top times in the 100 and 200 back. She also helped the team to second place in 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay.

Men's Diver of the Week
Will Chandler, Texas, So., Waco, Texas
Chandler posted top-three finishes on all three boards at the Phill Hansel Invitational. He finished the meet by taking second in the platform event after placing third on both springboards at the 26-diver meet.

Women's Diver of the Week
Maren Taylor, Texas, Jr., Arlington, Va.
Taylor posted top-five finishes on all-three boards at the Phill Hansel Invitational. She won the 61-diver three-meter event with 370.60 points and outdistanced her nearest competitor by 45 points. She posted her second consecutive top-2 finish the next day, as she placed second in the 61-diver one-meter event with 287.80 points. Taylor placed fifth in the 38-competitor platform diving event with 242.75 points.
