Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas all won their opening round games of the NCAA Softball Regionals on Friday, giving the conference a perfect 3-0 record to start the weekend.
No. 18 Baylor jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and cruised on the arm of Whitney Canion to a 7-0 win over Arizona in the opening game of the NCAA College Station Regional.
Canion threw her fifth complete-game shutout of the year, striking out seven, walking none and scattering just six hits. The lefty moved into fifth place on the Big 12's all-time strikeout list, now having 1,156.
Baylor will now face host Texas A&M in the winner's bracket beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The game can be seen live on ESPN.
Oklahoma, the top overall seed in this year’s tournament, scored eight runs in the first inning on the way to a 17-0 win over Marist in Norman.
Sophomore Lauren Chamberlain scored two runs for the Sooners, giving her 71 for the year and tying the OU and Big 12 single-season record.
OU will take on Arkansas, who knocked off Fordham 5-1 in game one of the Norman Regional. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
Texas defeated Army 5-0 in the second game of the Austin Regional at Red & Charline McCombs Field. A three-run home run from junior Mandy Ogle and sacrifice flies from freshman Stephanie Ceo and junior Taylor Thom provided the offense as seniors Blaire Luna and Kim Bruins allowed only three hits.
Texas will face South Carolina at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday.
