The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners captured their fifth-straight NCAA Regional title Saturday night as the squad posted a team score of 197.725 at the Minneapolis Regional in Minneapolis, Minn. to advance to the 2014 NCAA Championship. Joining the Sooners in Birmingham, Ala., will be Iowa State’s Caitlin Brown and West Virginia’s Hope Sloanhoffer in the all-around.
This will be the Sooners’ 11th-straight appearance and 14th overall. OU won or tied for the top team score on three events and captured individual titles on vault and beam. Oklahoma earned a 49.700 on the vault to set a program record. The Sooners recorded no score below a 9.9.
Brown finished with a career-high score of 39.400 in the all-around to punch her ticket to the NCAAs. The junior set a career-high on the vault (9.875) and matched a career-high on the floor (9.875).
Sloanhoffer tied for the win on balance beam and finished second in the all-around to earn a bid to the Birmingham. The Cornwall, N.Y.-native is the 18th individual qualifier in mountaineer history.The NCAA Championships will take place in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20, and will be hosted by the University of Alabama and the Alabama Sports Foundation.
