Three Big 12 softball squads will continue their 2013 season in the NCAA Regionals held May 17-19. Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas earned bids for postseason play.
Fresh off their 10th Big 12 title, the Oklahoma Sooners will host Marist, Fordham and Arkansas in Norman, Okla. The Sooners completed the regular season with 47 victories, the 20th-consecutive 40-plus win season. It is also OU’s 20th-straight trip to the NCAA Regionals. The top-ranked Sooners will take on Marist Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
In its ninth-straight NCAA tournament appearance, Texas will host Army on Friday at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin. The Longhorns finished the regular season in second place in the Big 12 with a 44-8 overall record and 14-4 in league play. Houston and South Carolina round out the quartet of squads in Austin.
The 16th-ranked Lady Bears, who earned an at-large bid to the championship, enter the regional after finishing third in the Big 12. Baylor will travel to the College Station Regional hosted by Texas A&M. The selection marks the eighth time in the last 10 years that BU has been picked for the NCAA Regionals. Baylor will play Arizona at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Pennsylvania rounds out the group of teams in College Station.
The winners of the regionals will advance to the NCAA Super Regional round the following weekend with the ultimate goal of reaching the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
