Seven league standouts have been named semifinalists on three different award watch lists presented by the College Baseball Foundation, as announced by the organization Thursday morning. The Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List features four league pitchers while the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List has two players listed, and the Brooks Wallace Award list includes one.
The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented to the top pitcher of the 2017 season, as decided by the Foundation.
The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
The finalists will be narrowed down in the coming weeks, and then all three awards will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation.
