Sophomore Taylor Jungmann (Texas) has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Athletic Preseason All-America First Team. Three other Big 12 student-athletes have also been honored.
Jungmann capped off his freshman campaign with a 5-0 postseason mark, including a 3-0 record with a 0.59 ERA at the College World Series to earn All-Tournament honors. Overall, Jungmann went 11-3 in 2009 while posting a 2.00 ERA. The 2009 Baseball America Freshman All-American fanned 101 batters and walked just 35 in 94.2 innings.
Fellow Longhorn hurler Chance Ruffin, Tony Thompson (Kansas) and Ryan Duke (Oklahoma) are second-team selections.
Both Ruffin and Thompson were All-Big 12 first team picks last season. Ruffin was 10-2 with one save a 3.32 ERA as a sophomore in '09. He struck out 115 while walking 25 in 124.2 innings.
Thompson won the Conference's triple crown last season, leading the league in batting average (.389), home runs (21) and RBI (82). The third baseman was named an All-American by four different publications following his sophomore season.
Duke, who was on the All-Big 12 second team in '09, paced the Big 12 with 16 saves and ranked sixth in the nation. The junior reliever received All-America distinction (third team) from the NCBWA last season and is the first Sooner to appear on a preseason list since 2003.
