September 22, 2014

Madison Rigdon (Kansas) and Rachel Brummitt (Texas Tech), along with Kylee Zumach (Kansas State) and Lauren Douglass (Texas Tech), have earned Big 12 volleyball weekly awards for matches played from Sept. 15-21.

Rigdon collects the Offensive Player of the Week honor - the first freshman to do so since Aug. 27, 2012. Brummitt earns her second Defensive Player of the Week for the season and fifth overall after claiming the honor once in 2013 and twice in 2012. Her five career awards ties her for fifth-most in Big 12 history.

Zumach and Douglass share Rookie of the Week honors. Zumach has earned the award the previous two weeks, while Douglass was named the Offensive Player of the Week to open the season.

Brummitt earned All-Tournament honors at the Lone Star Showdown, recording 71 digs over the weekend, an average of 5.92, which topped the Big 12 on the week. Rookies of the Week
Kylee Zumach, Kansas State, Fr., OH, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo
The freshman outside hitter was named the Michigan Invitational MVP over the weekend after recording 51 kills (3.92), nine digs and eight blocks to help lift K-State to a 3-0 record in Ann Arbor. Zumach had a career day in the tournament-opening match against Eastern Michigan, notching a career-high 25 kills on a .356 attack percentage. The 25 kills were the most by a Big 12 player this season and the most by a Wildcat since Nov. 23, 2011. At Michigan on Friday, Zumach had 14 kills – tied for the team-high – hit .406, and had four blocks to help the Wildcats beat the Wolverines in four sets. Over all four matches last week, Zumach had double-digit kills in each contest, averaging 3.81 kills and 4.09 points, which were sixth- and eighth-highest among all Big 12 players.

Lauren Douglass, Texas Tech, So., MB/RS, Flower Mound, Texas/Ole Miss

She amassed 41 kills over the weekend, including a career-high 17 in Tech’s thrilling comeback against Weber State, a game in which she also had eight blocks.
