Quartet Collects Volleyball Weekly Accolades
October 05, 2015

Kansas’ Madison Rigdon has earned the Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week recognition, while K-State’s Kersten Kober is the Defensive Player of the Week honoree. Madison Drescher (Oklahoma) and Yaazie Bedart-Ghani (Texas) share the Rookie of the Week distinction.

This is the second career Offensive Player of the Week accolade for Rigdon, who also won the honor on Sept. 22, 2014.

Offensive Player of the Week
Madison Rigdon, Kansas, So., OH, Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville
Rigdon led a balanced Kansas offense with 11 kills on just 15 error-less swings in a three-set victory over West Virginia on Saturday. The win gave Kansas a program-best 15th-consecutive victory, while remaining as one of three undefeated teams in NCAA Division I. Rigdon’s .733 hitting percentage against WVU is a career high, and the second career match with no attacking errors on at least 10 attempts. Her hit percentage led the Big 12 for the week, while her 3.67 kills per set ranked tied for third.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kersten Kober, Kansas State, Jr., L, Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll
Kober registered a career-high 37 digs in K-State’s match at TCU on Saturday, helping the Wildcats limit the Frogs to a .217 hitting percentage (.180 after the first set) and erase a two-set deficit before losing in five. The junior’s 37 digs are the third-most by a Wildcat in program history and the most in a road contest since 1987. The total is also the highest by any Big 12 player this season and most in a Big 12 match since October 22, 2014. It was the libero’s second career 30-dig match and eighth 20-dig effort. Kober currently leads the Big 12 with 6.42 digs per set in conference-only matches.

Rookies of the Week
Madison Drescher, Oklahoma, Fr., OH, Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll
Drescher provided a spark off the bench in the Sooners’ 6-2 offense this week by hitting .385 with a 2.38 kills per set average. She finished the week second on the team with 19 kills to just four errors on 39 total attacks. The freshman opened the week with seven kills against Iowa State and finished the week with 12 kills and just one error against Baylor as she hit .550. Defensively, she added 10 blocks and six digs averaging 1.25 and 0.75 per set, respectively.

Yaazie Bedart-Ghani, Texas, Fr., OH, Los Angeles, Calif./Redondo Union
Bedart-Ghani ranked second in the league in hitting on the week with a .667 mark in Texas’ sweep of Iowa State on Saturday. The freshman recorded seven kills with just one error on nine total attempts. She also chipped in three blocks and two digs on the week.
