Texas’ Paulina Prieto Cerame, K-State’s Katie Brand and Iowa State’s Jess Schaben collect Big 12 Volleyball weekly accolades for matches played Oct. 21-25.

Prieto Cerame’s Offensive Player of the Week award marks the fourth in that category for the Horns this season, three of which have come from a different player, as Chiaka Ogbogu and Amy Neal have also claimed the honor.

Brand earns her third career Big 12 weekly honor and second Defensive Player of the Week nod.

Schaben tallies her fourth Rookie of the Week distinction on the season, becoming the seventh player in league history with four or more Rookie of the Week awards in a single season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Paulina Prieto Cerame, Texas, Jr., OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico/Penn State
Prieto Cerame ranked in the top six in hitting percentage, kills and points in league play last week as the Longhorns recorded a pair of wins to remain undefeated in conference action. The junior hit at a .392 clip for the week with an average of 4.00 kills and 4.33 points over two matches. She had a team-high 16 kills on Friday in Texas’ victory over then-undefeated Kansas, recording just two errors on 29 total attacks for a .483 hitting mark. In Wednesday’s win at K-State, she totaled eight kills with just two errors in 22 attempts. For the week, she finished with 24 kills on 51 attempts with four errors and also added four blocks.

Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Brand, Kansas State, Jr., S, Grand Island, Neb./Central Catholic
The only player in the Big 12 to rank in the conference’s top-10 for both blocks (5th) and digs (3rd) per set last week, Brand had 29 digs and eight blocks over K-State’s two matches. The setter had a match-high 15 digs and three blocks against No. 2 Texas, helping the Wildcats hold the Longhorns to a hitting percentage (.246) under .300 in a Big 12 match for the first time since November 2014. Brand then had 14 digs and five blocks in the Wildcats’ sweep of Texas Tech in Lubbock, tying for the match-high in both categories and helping hold the Red Raiders to a sub-.200 hitting percentage. Brand’s dig totals against Texas and Texas Tech were the third and fourth highest, respectively, among Big 12 players last week while the five blocks against the Red Raiders were tied for the third highest. The redshirt junior was also third in the conference in assists/set (10.67) for the week and registered eight kills on a .412 hitting percentage.

Rookie of the Week
Jess Schaben, Iowa State, Fr., OH, Defiance, Iowa/Harlan
Schaben once again had a pair of strong offensive and defensive performances to lead Iowa State to a 2-0 record for the week. Against West Virginia Wednesday night, she led ISU with 12 kills at a career-best .632 hitting percentage, the most efficient hitting effort of the week in the conference. She also tied a season-high with three blocks against the Mountaineers. In the Cyclones’ win at Baylor Sunday afternoon, Schaben tallied nine kills, while chipping in two blocks.
