Longhorns Advance to National Championship

No. 4 Texas Volleyball (27-4) defeated No. 1 Nebraska (31-3), 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) on Thursday night in the NCAA Semifinal to advance to its fifth and second-straight NCAA National Championship match.

The Horns will take on No. 8 Stanford at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 17, live on ESPN.

Junior Ebony Nwanebu led the Longhorns with 15 kills, making only one error on 37 attempts for a .378 hitting percentage for a team-high 17 points.

Senior Paulina Prieto Cerame also posted double-digit kills for Texas with 12, while freshman Micaya White added seven.

Senior Chloe Collins posted her 11th double-double of the season with 37 assists and 11 digs, while junior Cat McCoy had a team-high 12 digs and freshman Autumn Rounsaville added 10.

Sophomore Morgan Johnson tallied seven blocks, White posted five and sophomore Yaazie Bedart-Ghani added three.

As a team, Texas hit .321 for its seventh-straight match hitting .321 or better and held the Huskers to a .182 percentage and outblocked them, 10.0 to 4.0

In the first set, Texas struck first with a 3-0 run to take an early 7-4 lead, but Nebraska answered with a 3-0 lead of its own to tie the score at 9. The Horns responded with a 4-1 run behind kills from White and Nwanebu and maintained it throughout the set. Texas hit .323 in the set led by Prieto Cerame's four kills on a .571 clip to win it, 25-18.

The Huskers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set, but the Longhorns quickly evened the score. Texas took a two-point lead at 16-14, but Nebraska evened the score until UT struck again, taking a 22-20 lead. The Horns maintained the advantage, capitalized on Nebraska errors and took the second set, 25-23.

In the third set, Texas kept the momentum, jumping out to a 6-2 lead and kept it until Nebraska executed a 3-0 run to pull within one at 15-16. The Horns responded with another 3-0 run to lead for a 19-15 advantage, but the Huskers would not fold, pulling to within one again at 18-19. Texas stayed strong, winning seven of the last nine points to complete the sweep, 25-21.

Mikaela Foecke led Nebraska with 13 kills, five digs and two aces.
