Sydney Anderson (Nebraska) and Lauren Mathewson (Kansas State) have been selected as the Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for matches of Nov. 2-8. Anderson's teammate Hannah Werth received the Rookie of the Week accolade. All three student-athletes have been recognized prior to this week (Anderson, 6 times; Werth, 5; Mathewson, 2).
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sydney Anderson, Nebraska, S, Jr., 6-0, Salt Lake City, Utah/Utah
Anderson led No. 10 Nebraska to a 2-0 record, including sweeps against Missouri and at No. 8 Iowa State. She guided the Husker offense to a Big 12-best .384 hitting percentage while dishing out 13.67 assists per set. The Salt Lake City, Utah junior also compiled 1.00 kills and a league-leading 0.83 services aces per frame. Anderson helped the Huskers hit a season-high .451 against the Tigers on Wednesday, distributing 43 assists along with two aces and two blocks. The six starters hit over .400 on the night, including Brooke Delano's .833 hitting percentage (10-0-12), which was the sixth-best outing in school history. At ISU, Anderson had 39 assists and a season-high three aces as NU hit at a .327 clip. The Huskers became the first team to hit .300 or above against the Cyclones in 34 matches dating back to last season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Mathewson, Kansas State, L, Jr., 5-6, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South
Mathewson tallied a school-record 41 digs in a five-set victory over No. 23 Texas A&M in Manhattan. The Wildcats battled back from an 11-6 deficit in the fifth set to win the match. The Kansas City, Mo.-native followed that performance with 19 digs in four sets against Texas Tech on Sunday. Mathewson also contributed three aces in KSU's sweep of the Red Raiders. For the week, she averaged a Big 12-leading 6.67 digs and 0.33 aces. Mathewson has posted 15 or more digs in seven of the last eight matches and 5.95 digs per set during that time. She is tied for seventh on the career digs list at K-State with 1,121.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Hannah Werth, Nebraska, OH, Fr., 6-1, Springfield, Ill./Glenwood
Werth recorded 3.50 kills per set on .312 hitting as 10th-ranked Nebraska swept Missouri at home and No. 8 Iowa State on the road. She chipped in 3.67 digs to assist the Husker defense. At ISU, Werth led NU in both kills (nine) and digs (15) and added two blocks (one solo, one assist) on Saturday. Werth paced the Nebraska offensive attack with 12 kills while hitting at a .429 clip against Missouri. She also registered a season-high two aces and seven digs in the victory.
