Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week
Brittany Chambers, Kansas State, G, 5-8, So, Jordan, Minn.
Brittany Chambers tallied a career-high 27 points on a career-best 11 made field goals in Kansas State's 60-55 overtime win at Missouri. The victory extended K-State's win streak to five - which is its longest in Big 12 play since the 2007-08 season. The sophomore guard connected on 57.9 percent (11-of-19) of her field goal attempts and shot 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from the 3-point line. With the Wildcats trailing by 11 with 7:33 remaining in regulation, she connected on four straight 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions to bring K-State to within one at the 3:42 mark. Chambers also hauled in eight rebounds and registered two steals. The point total was her ninth career 20-plus point effort and her seventh this season. She moved into ninth place in school history for combined points to begin a career (712) and climbed into 10th for career 3-point field goals made (120). Chambers ranks seventh at KSU for three-point field goals made by a sophomore (55) and notched her 11th career game with four or more made three-point field goals, including her seventh this season.
Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshmen of the Week
Jordan Hooper, Nebraska, F, 6-2, Fr, Alliance, Neb.
Jordan Hooper averaged 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in Nebraska's games against Missouri and Colorado last week. She scored 31 points, 28 in the second half, and grabbed eight rebounds in a 76-69 loss at Missouri - matching Kelsey Griffin for the second-most points by a freshman in school history. The 6-2 forward tied the NU record with seven three-pointers, including six in the second half to help Nebraska erase a 17-point halftime deficit and take a 1-point lead with less than five minutes left. For the game, Hooper hit 8-of-16 shots from the field, including 7-of-12 three-pointers. She was also 8-for-8 at the free throw line, while grabbing eight rebounds. She blocked one shot and added a steal in 26 minutes as she played just seven minutes in the first half. Hooper's seven threes against MU pushed her season total to 47, surpassing the previous Nebraska freshman record of 46 made by Anna DeForge in 1994-95. She added a team-high 14 points and five rebounds in Sunday's loss at Colorado.
Chassidy Fussell, Texas, G, 5-10, Fr, Union City, Tenn.
Chassidy Fussell scored 25 points, one shy of her career-high, in Texas' win over Kansas. It marked her 20th double-digit scoring effort of the season, which ties for sixth on UT's list by a freshman. She is the first Longhorn to record five-consecutive 20-plus scoring efforts since Tiffany Jackson had a six-game streak during the 2006-07 campaign. The 5-8 guard has reached the 20-point mark 12 times this season, including in all but one Big 12 game. Fussell currently has 381 points which is the ninth-most by a UT freshman, and has scored in double figures in all but one game. She led the Longhorns in scoring for the 10th time and tied for the lead in rebounding with seven.
