Big 12 regular season champion Baylor became the first program in Conference history to collect five individual awards, including coach and player of the year, in highlighting the 2010-11 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference Women’s Basketball Awards.

Kim Mulkey earned her second Big 12 Coach of the Year honor while sophomore Brittney Griner became the second Lady Bear to garner Big 12 Player of the Year in addition to picking up her second nod for Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Last season she shared the award with Nebraska’s Yvonne Turner.

Destiny Williams was voted Big 12 Newcomer of the Year while Odyssey Sims was selected Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

Texas A&M’s Maryann Baker and Texas Tech’s Chynna Brown claimed the Sixth Man Award. The honors were voted on by the league’s head coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Mulkey, in her 11th season at Baylor, led the program to its second Big 12 regular season title with a current 28-2 overall record and 15-1 league mark. The Lady Bears were ranked No. 1 in both national polls for seven consecutive weeks from Jan. 3-Feb. 14 and have been rated in the top three each week this season. BU will enter the Phllips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship as the No. 1 seed.

Griner is second in the Conference and seventh nationally with 22.5 points a game and is fifth in league rebounds with 7.9 an outing. She ranks second in the nation with 4.5 blocks and is also second on the Big 12 career list with 357 total swats. The sophomore center added her fourth career triple-double during the season and was named Big 12 Player of the Week four times.

Williams started 13 of the 19 games she played in after completing NCAA transfer requirements. The sophomore forward is fourth on the Lady Bears team in scoring with 8.1 points and tied for second with 6.8 rebounds.

Sims, a true freshman point guard, is second at BU and 14th in the Big 12 in scoring with 13.9 points. She leads the league in three-point percentage at 44.9 percent (57-of-127). Sims has earned five Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors and her 37 points at Oklahoma were the second-most in the Big 12 this season.

Baker and Brown serve as sparkplugs off the bench for their respective teams. Baker, a senior guard, has contributed 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Aggies while connecting on 41.2 percent (49-of-119) of her field goal attempts. Brown averages 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Lady Raiders. The sophomore guard has hit 41.9 percent from the field (85-of-203).
