West Virginia soccer senior defender Kadeisha Buchanan has been named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Year.
A native of Brampton, Ontario, Buchanan also previously earned espnW Player of the Year accolades.
Buchanan and classmate Ashley Lawrence were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Postseason Best XI First Team. Additionally, Buchanan also was named to the HERO Sports’ 2016 D1 Women’s Soccer All-America Team.
A four-time NSCAA All-American and a three-time first team honoree, Buchanan anchored a Mountaineer defense which posted a program-record and nation-best 18 shutouts this season and allowed 12 goals. The four-time reigning Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time team captain, she posted nine points (3 G, 3 A) in her final season at WVU.
Lawrence, a midfielder, is a two-time NSCAA All-America First Team honoree. She paced WVU this year with 10 assists, a career high and the third-best showing in program history. A four-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a 2016 team captain, Lawrence finished the year ranked No. 2 on the team with 18 points (4 G, 10 A). She graduates ranked No. 3 in program history with 29 career assists.
Semifinalists for the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy, the duo led the Mountaineers (23-2-2, 8-0) to the program’s first NCAA College Cup appearance and a second-place finish. They also helped
WVU sweep the Big 12 Conference titles for the third time in five years.
