Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices on July 23-25 on Big12Sports. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Oklahoma State’s Vanessa Shippy and Jawun Evans.
OSU Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Vanessa Shippy; Softball
Jr; Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
^ All-American and All-Big 12 First Team in 2017
^ Led the team with a .398 batting average and had 48 runs scored to go with 46 RBI.
^ Set an OSU single-season record in 2017 by starting in 63 games. She has played in 173 contests at Oklahoma State, and has started in all of them.
^ Owns the first and fourth highest single-season on-base percentage marks in team history (.543 in 2016, .517 in 2017). Her .517 OBP in 2017 ranked 24th in the country.
^ Tallied 111 total bases in 2017, which rank as the sixth highest total by a Cowgirl in the program’s history.

Jawun Evans; Men’s Basketball

^ Named third-team All-America by Sporting News, NBC Sports and Bleacher Report and was an honorable mention All-America honoree by the Associated Press
^ Earned first team All-Big 12 honors by both the AP and the league’s coaches.
^ One of just four power conference players to average at least 16.0 points and 6.0 assists per game in league play
^ Ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring at 19.2 points per game, which is the 13th best scoring season in school history.
