All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team Unveiled

The Big 12 Conference has announced the 2017 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team, which includes the top three conference gymnasts with the highest regional qualifying score (RQS) in each event and two all-around competitors. RQS figures are based off the final regular season GymInfo Rankings (

Oklahoma led the way with 14 selections while Denver received two selections and West Virginia one. Oklahoma senior Chayse Capps and freshman Maggie Nichols took home all-around honors. Nichols became the fifth gymnast to be named to all five teams, including the second from OU, while Capps earned the award for the second consecutive year. Nichols’ RQS of 39.785 is the second highest mark in league history (Richelle Simpson, 39.800 in 2005).

Denver’s Maddie Karr was awarded recognition on vault, collecting a 9.930 RQS and coming in at No. 6 in the nation. Teammate Julia Ross was honored for her 9.910 RQS on beam and ranks tied for 11th nationally.

West Virginia’s Kirah Koshinski also received vault accolades for her RQS mark of 9.900. Koshinski also ranks tied for 13th in the nation in the event.

The top three finishers in each event at the championship are named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team, while Gymnast, Newcomer, Event Specialist and Coach of the Year awards are also presented at the championship.
