The Big 12 Gymnastics Championship returns tomorrow, March 18 to Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. Competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT.
All four squads all rank within the top 28 teams in the nation, including two top seven teams: No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 7 Denver, No. 22 West Virginia and T-No. 28 Iowa State.
This year, the Sooners look to record their sixth consecutive Big 12 championship and their tenth title overall (2004, ‘08-’10, ‘12-’16) while coming off a national championship victory. Iowa State owns two titles (2000, ‘06) while West Virginia and Denver will be competing for their first league championship.
Maggie Nichols and Chayse Capps (OU) took home All-Big 12 All-Around Team accolades and rank No. 1 and No. 3 in the nation, respectively and also tie for first on beam. With five All-Big 12 Team honors, Nichols became the fifth gymnast in league history to earn recognition in every event.
Denver’s Maddie Karr enters postseason action after receiving three Big 12 Weekly Award titles, including two gymnast of the week honors. The freshman was named to the All-Big 12 Vault Team after earning a 9.930 RQS and the No. 6 gymnast in the nation honor in the event.
