Kansas Big 12 Athlete of the Year Nominees

Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices on July 23-25 on Big12Sports. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Kansas’ Sharon Lokedi and Frank Mason III.

KU Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Sharon Lokedi; Cross Country/Track & Field

^ Claimed her first-career conference championship, topping the field at the Big 12 cross country meet by 16 seconds

^ Qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the second-straight year, where she ran to All-America honors for the second time by way of a fifth-place finish

^ Captured Big 12 titles in both the Outdoor 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, becoming just the seventh female in the league’s history to win both events at a Big 12 meet

^ Named the Big 12 Outstanding Female Performer of the Year by the league’s coaches

^ NCAA First Team All-American in the Outdoor 10,000m

^ Consensus National Player of the Year by 10 different entities, including Naismith, Wooden, Associated Press and Oscar Robertson which are listed in the NCAA Record Book
^ Consensus All-America First Team
^ Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award
^ Big 12 Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team
^ Became the only player in KU and Big 12 history to average more than 20 points and five assists in the same season
