Iowa State Athlete of the Year Candidates

Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices on July 23-25 on Big12Sports. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Iowa State’s Jhoanmy Luque and Monte Morris.

ISU Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
      Jhoanmy Luque; Track & Field
Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela


^ Swept the long jump and triple jump titles at the Big 12 Indoor Championship

^ Earned the Big 12’s High-Point Award, the Big 12 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Year and USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year honors

^ Finished 12th in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump to earn Second Team All-America honors in each event at the Indoor NCAA Championship

^ Clinched the triple jump title with a career-best leap of 45-3 ½ at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship

^ At the NCAA West Preliminaries, broke the school and Venezuelan national record in the long jump with a best-leap of 21-7 3/4

Monte Morris; Men’s Basketball
Sr; Flint, Mich.


^ Second Team All-American by Basketball Times and
^ Led Iowa State to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship title and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player  
^ Unanimous All-Big 12 First Team
^ Led the NCAA for the third time in four seasons in assists-to-turnover ratio, finishing with a single-season record at 5.17
^ Finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in wins (100), assist-to-turnover ratio (4.65), assists (768) and steals (225)
