Throwers Shine in Day One of Big 12 Track

On the first day of the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the throwers from K-State and TCU gave their teams early leads with two days remaining.


The Wildcats filled the podium for the Women’s Hammer, placing four in the top eight including back-to-back champion Janee’ Kassanavoid’s throw of 68.21 m. On the men’s side, Gleb Dudarev of Kansas also earned his second medal in as many years with his 72.37 m throw.


The back-to-back trend continued with Women’s Javelin, as Texas senior Haley Crouser’s throw of 55.65 m bested competition for the second straight year. Longhorn teammate Fabian Dohmann took home the medal, the second of his career, on the men’s side with a throw of 72.54 m.


In the final competition of the day, Kansas senior Sharon Lokedi won her third straight 10,000 m race in a time of 34:56.39.  Iowa State’s Edwin Kurgat won his first 10,000 m race with a time of 30:56.47.



Through the first five events of the Men’s Decathlon, Texas junior Steele Wasik leads the way with 3,213 as he looks to defend his title in the event. Texas Tech junior Kaylee Hinton took the early lead after four events in the Women’s Heptathlon with 3,549 points.
