The first Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the 2018-19 season were announced Wednesday, as Texas and Texas Tech athletes earned honors.
The Red Raiders collected two weekly awards as Odaine Lewis (Men’s Co-Athlete of the Week) and Zarriea Willis (Women’s Athlete of the Week) were selected. Texas’ Jonathan Jones was tabbed Men’s Co-Athletes of the Week.
Jones ran the fastest 400m in the country last weekend at the Ted Nelson Invitational at 46.68. The personal-best time made him the No. 8 performer in Texas history.
Lewis took first-place at his first meet of the Indoor Track & Field season last week after a 26’-2.75” long jump. His jump marked the top score in the nation as he also holds the No. 1 spot in the Big 12.
Willis garnered the No. 1 spot in the high jump competition at the Corky Classic after she cleared 6’0.75” (1.85m) last week. The senior earned her fourth career clearance of 1.85m and is tied atop the national and Big 12 table with the highest clearance.
This week’s award marks the first honors for all three competitors.
