Alabama Snags First Rowing Weekly Award
March 28, 2019

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s First Varsity Eight has been recognized as the first Big 12 Boat of the Week for the 2018-19 rowing season.

The crew earned Boat of the Week for their performance at the Cardinal Invite. Alabama’s First Varsity 8+ squared off against three teams from the 2018 NCAA Championship. Going head-to-head against No. 6 Yale and No. 7 Virginia, the Tide finished only three (UVA) to seven (Yale) seconds off the two top-10 teams.

The Crimson Tide’s First Varsity 8+ highlighted the final day after beating No. 17 Indiana by one second to post the fastest time of any V8+ crew of the day by three-tenths of a second. The victory played a factor in Alabama sweeping a top-20 team for the first time in program history.

This is the first Big 12 weekly honor for Alabama since joining the Big 12 as an affiliate member in rowing.
