The 2005 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament returns to Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo., March 10-13. The four-day, 11-game event began as the Big Eight Tournament in 1977 and has been played in Kemper Arena every year except for the 2003 and 2004 events which were held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Since opening in 1974, the 18,278-seat arena has hosted several sporting events including NCAA Regionals in 1983, 1986, 1992, 1995-1997, 2001, and 2004, the NAIA Tournament from 1975 - 1993, the Big Eight Basketball Tournament from 1979-1996, The Big 12 Conference Basketball Tournament from 1997-2002 and 2005, the 1988 Men's Final Four and the 1998 Women's Final Four.

It is likely this is the final Big 12 Tournament in the historic building with a new basketball facility currently under construction in downtown Kansas City. The 2006 event will return to Dallas and the 2007 tournament will be at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
