April 14, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS--The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is among the 12 teams that qualified to compete for the 2008 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships.

The championships, hosted by the University of Georgia, will be held in Athens, Georgia, at Stegeman Coliseum, April 24-26.

Oklahoma advanced with a second-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional. Top-seeded Alabama took home the regional title at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. Missouri closed their season by placing fourth in the NCAA Central Regional.

Adrianne Perry (MU) scored a 39.300 in the all-around, earning her a third consecutive berth to the NCAA National Championships as an all-arounder. Iowa State concluded its season finishing sixth at the NCAA Northeast Regional. Nebraska just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by finishing third behind No. 2 Florida and No. 9 UCLA. However, three Huskers did qualify as individuals for the NCAA Championships as Emily Parsons and Desire' Sniatynski will compete as all-arounders and Tricia Woo will perform as a beam and floor specialist.

The women's gymnastics championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors from each regional received automatic berths to the national championships.

In addition, the event winners at the regional championships advance to the national championships (in their specific event) if they were not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

Beginning with the 2008 championships, the process for determining rotation pairings for day one of the team competition at the site of the finals is based on a National Qualifying Score (NQS) calculated by adding the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to the score achieved at regional competition.
