IRVING, Texas--The Big 12 Conference has named 112 student-athletes to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team, the league office announced.

Among those honored were eight nominated with a 4.00 grade point average. Brad Hubbard (Missouri) and Matt McGinnis (Texas) posted a 4.00 on the men's side. The women's student-athletes with a perfect GPA include Jessica Brozek (Kansas), Sarah Ziegelmann (Nebraska), Kathryn Kelly (Texas) along with Ella Doerge, Emily Neal and Sarah Woods (Texas A&M).

The Texas men's squad placed a league-leading 15 student-athletes on the team, while Kansas paced the women's field with 17 selections.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's swimming & diving academic all-league squad consisted of 30 first team members combined with six on the second team, while the women had 61 first team recipients and 15 student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Texas will host the 2008 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships at Jamail Texas Swimming Center this weekend for the sixth time in conference history (men's: 1999, 2001, 2003-04 / women's: 1998-99, 2001, 2003-04).

The Big 12 Conference Championships field will consist of the six institutions that sponsor women's programs -- Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas and Texas A&M, along with the three schools that have men's teams -- Missouri, Texas and Texas A&M. The Longhorn men's squad are the defending Big 12 champions, and have won all 11 conference titles. On the women's side, Texas A&M earned its first league title last season while UT owns a league-leading eight crowns (1999-2006). The Nebraska women took home top honors in 1997 and `98.
