March 19, 2008
Fayetteville, Ark. - Seven Big 12 athletes captured individual titles at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Big 12 squads also had plenty of success at the National Championships as six men's and women's teams placed in the top 10. Among those capturing individuals titles were four repeat champions from last year's championship. Leonel Manzano (Texas) didn't break the four-minute mile mark as he did last year but still won the event with a time of 4:04.45. Egor Agafonov of Kansas took home his second consecutive weight throw title with a toss of 74'-06 ¼" (22.71m). The Baylor men's 4x400-meter relay won its fourth national title in seven years as the team consisting of Trey Harts, Marcus Boyd, Justin Boyd and LeJerald Betters ran a top time of 3:05.66. Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego also defended her crown in the 5000 meter run with a world-leading time of 15:31.91. Also placing first at nationals was Dusty Jonas (Nebraska) who beat Big 12 Champion Scott Sellers head-to-head in the high jump with a leap of 7'-07" (2.31m). Bianca Knight led a Big 12-heavy 200 meter dash with a top time of 22.40. The men's distance medley relay team from Texas consisting of Jacob Hernandez, Danzell Fortson, Tevan Everett and Leonel Manzanoalso took home top honors (9:32.04). The relay squad set a world record earlier this year. Two men's teams (Texas and Texas A&M) and four women's squads (Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas and Texas Tech) finished in the top 10 in the standings. Texas led both the men and women by placing third and fourth respectively. Big 12 Men's Teams Results Big 12 Women's Teams Results
