IRVING, Texas--Stephen Pifer (Colorado) was named the Big 12 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while the Texas A&M 4 x 100-meter relay team was named Big 12 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for meets of March 18-24.
Big 12 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week
Stephen Pifer, Colorado, Sr., Edwardsville, Ind./ Edwardsville
Pifer ran a Potts Field record of 3:47.75 on Saturday at the Potts Invitational in Boulder. The time topped the previous mark of 3:48.25, which was set in 1986 at the Big Eight Championship. The time ties the third best in the nation, but with the altitude conversion, it is the nation's leading time at 3:42.19. It is also the best mark in the conference. He defeated the runner-up by more than 10 seconds (3:57.83). This was Pifer's first competition since November when he ran at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Texas A&M 4 x 100-meter Relay Team

The defending NCAA champions in the 4 x 100-meter relay opened the outdoor season with a time of 43.40 seconds to win the Texas Invitational in Austin. It is the best mark in the world this year. The time is the third best on the Aggies outdoor list, trailing only the 43.05 Texas A&M posted last year to win the NCAA title and a 43.29 to win the Midwest Region in 2007.
