Big 12 Conference Reprimands Baylor Men's Basketball Coach Scott Drew
March 10, 2008
The Big 12 Conference announced a public reprimand of Baylor University head men's basketball coach Scott Drew for comments following the Texas A&M at Baylor game on March 5. Drew's remarks were made in reference to a screen-play in the second half of the contest. The statements were in violation of the Big 12 Conference's Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship. "The Conference's Sportsmanship Policy prohibits coaches from critical public comments about an opponent and any comments about officiating," said Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe. "Coach Drew expressed his regret for the violation and I appreciate the cooperation by Baylor and Coach Drew in resolving this issue and moving forward."
Commissioner Beebe noted that the Big 12 has a program in place to review the performance of game officials that includes the accuracy of judgment calls and that the coaches are given the opportunity to provide input. The season-long system of evaluation determines whether or not an official will receive future assignments to work Big 12 games.
