A Big 12-record 11 women's basketball teams will compete in postseason play. Eight teams received bids to the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship while three will participate in the WNIT. The league's eight NCAA berths are also a Big 12 record.

 

Texas A&M earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament after winning the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. Teams receiving at-large bids were regular season champion Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and Iowa State.

 

Colorado received the Big 12's automatic berth into the WNIT with Texas Tech and Kansas getting at-large bids. All three received first round byes and will host second round games.

 

The conference's previous record for postseason bids was nine in 1999 and 2004. The Big 12 and the Big East tied for the most NCAA bids among the 31 conferences. The previous Big 12 high was seven in 2001, 2002 and 2004. Since the inception of the league in 1996-97, the Big 12 has received 95 postseason berths, including 71 in the NCAA Championship field.
