Three Big 12 Squads Advance to NCAA Volleyball Championship Regional Action

Big 12 co-champions Nebraska and Texas as well as Iowa State earned a trip to the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship Round of 16 after claiming second-round victories on Saturday. The second-ranked Huskers (29-1) swept Wichita State 30-22, 30-19, 30-19 to advance to their nation-leading 14th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance at the NU Coliseum. On Friday, Nebraska eliminated South Dakota State in the first round. The defending national champions will face Michigan State at 7 p.m. CT on Friday in the Madison, Wis. Regional. The Cyclones will join Nebraska in Madison when they meet California at 5 p.m. in the first regional semifinal of the night. ISU upset No. 7 seed Wisconsin, 3-0, on the Badgers' home court on Saturday. This will mark Iowa State's first regional appearance. The win is also the Cyclones' highest-ever over a ranked opponent and their third-straight over a top-25 team, including a five-game victory over No. 16 San Diego in the first round. Fourth-seeded Texas shut out Texas State and LSU on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to advance to regional action for the second straight year. The Longhorns extended their win streak to 22 matches, including 20 consecutive victories in Gregory Gymnasium. UT will travel to Gainesville, Fla. on Friday to play host and 13th seeded-Florida at 6 p.m.
The regional winners will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Sacramento State University and the Sacramento Sports Commission at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. on Dec. 13 and 15.
